Fraxel Laser

Treating Stretch Marks with Fraxel Laser

Let’s consider why we must use the Fraxel laser. The dermatologist and other health experts refer to this ugly sight as striae. They usually emerge as purple and red lines (depending on the complexion of the individual) that are often caused by strain due to sudden weight gain. Puberty, hormonal changes or imbalances and pregnancy among others can cause striae among women.  Men get theirs from working out excessively in the gym. Fraxel is now the outcome of a deep research to tackle this problem. Let us see how it works.

Fraxel-How it Works

Fraxel refers to partial fractional resurfacing. A brief knowledge of how stretch marks appear is needed, in order to understand how this works. The layers of human skin has three levels.

The first is the epidermis, while the second is the dermis. This second layer is responsible for the general contraction in regards to increases in body size. There is a limit however to its elasticity during expansion. When it gets beyond this limit, collagen is disturbed and this will manifest in reddish and purple lines on the skin, which is the stretch marks.

When Fraxel is used in treatment, the area is cleaned and a topical anesthesia is also dabbed on the area. Then this part of the body is massaged lightly with the laser head.  Faint rays are emitted from the probe that are usually invisible to the human eye, and it is the rays that stimulate the healing of the marks.

The time per session is usually about half an hour at most. While the monetary value is placed at 600 US Dollars. Normally 2 to 6 months is enough for the patient to start seeing results.

Fraxel Laser Safety?

The FDA already marked Fraxel to be efficient in the treatment of age marks and wrinkles. Though the approval for stretch marks is still being expected, it has a proven success record of about 75% in stretch mark cases. Care must be taken to follow the user guide. Some issues to consider are:

-Ointments should be used when applying Fraxel

-When in the sun, cover the affected area with light coverings or sun screens

-You should void eating Vitamin A rich foods, especially 10 days to start of treatment.

Any Side Effects?

The known side effects are not long lasting. They usually stop after two or three days from treatment session. These are no issues compared to the confidence the patient will get after the treatment.

The regained beauty is another big reason to be happy. You have your once smooth skin back. Below are the known effects: dryness, swelling, redness, pain and itching.

Due to the cash oriented nature of this treatment, it is advised that people should explore other means like lotions and creams before resorting to the use of Fraxel laser.
